International Women’s Day – IWD celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.. ♀=♂ !!? hmmm.. Anyway, as the history, the earliest organised Women’s Day observance was held in 1909, in New York. It was organised by the Socialist Party of America in remembrance of the 1908 strike of the International Ladies Garment Worker’s Union.
In the West, International Women’s Day was first observed as a popular event after 1977 when the United Nations UN General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women’s rights and world peace. In 2016 leaders across the world pledged to take action as champions of gender parity – not only for International Women’s Day, but for every day.. whatt..!!? This year, and today March 8, 2017 the theme and the hashtag is #BeBoldForChange.
