Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, or simply known as UMK, is the 19th Public Institution of Higher Education. Its establishment was announced during the tabling of the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) by the 5th Prime Minister of Malaysia. On 14 June 2006, the establishment was then approved in the Cabinet Meeting.
Universiti Malaysia Kelantan is the only full university located in Kelantan Darul Naim. The curriculum philosophy of UMK is based on entrepreneurship education. Therefore tag-lines ‘Entrepreneurial University’, ‘Entrepreneurship Is Our Thrust’ and ‘Entrepreneurship Education’ are widely used.
For short and medium terms studies, three (3) core areas are given emphasis:
- Entrepreneurship and Business
- Creative Technology and Heritage
- Agro-Industry and Natural Resources
At the same time, emphasis is also placed on language and generic skills. All programs offered aim to produce high-quality human capital with first class mentality, complete with entrepreneurship attributes. This human capital is used to enhance global prosperity by focusing on the capacity and capability of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and contributing to development of a highly entrepreneurial community, using information and communication technology (ICT) as an enabler.
