Program Pencegahan Jenayah : SEKATA

The Welfare, Women and Family Development Ministry has established the Sekata Outreach Programme coordinating committee to help prevent crime and ensure family security. In a press conference 5 Jan 2012, its minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah noted that there is a relationship between family income and crime.

“Sekata is a crime prevention programme that focuses on, among other things, addressing basic issues such as capacity-building and empowering women. Family security is the responsibility of all.

Thirty-eight non-governmental organizations (NGOs) received allocations totaling RM3.2 million to organize various activities in a bid to combat crimes and social problems faced by family institution in the country. The allocations were channeled through the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) under its Crime Prevention: Family Safety Is Our Responsibility (SEKATA) program.

LPPKN director-general Datuk Aminah Abdul Rahman said the program was one of the government’s initiatives to achieve social development and people’s well being through the family and community-based approach.

The SEKATA program will be implemented nationwide from January to June this year.
