The new University of Malaya Art Gallery (UMAG), is located at Level 5, Chancellery Building, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. UMAG has about 250 paintings that worth around RM30millions where most of the collections are from well known artists’ masterpieces. Besides display and exhibition, UMAG also conducts art education for students.
The aim of UMAG is to continue the cultural legacy spearheaded by Royal Prof. Ungku Aziz (former UM vice chancellor 1968-88). The objectives of UMAG are to “inculcate art appreciation, promote research and visual acuity, pedagogy and foster critique through intercultural dialogue within the universe of the contemporary art scene”. Opening hours from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday – Friday and closed on weekends and public holidays.
