Strengthening the education system at all levels of the Ministry of Education, Malaysia in the field of management and leadership begins when the “Malaysian Educational Staff Training Institute” (MESTI) was established in 1979. In line with the rapid expansion and relocation to its new campus, it was later known as Institut Pengurusan Pendidikan Negara, (National Institute of Education Management) in 1985. In 1988 the Minister of Education declared the new name of IPPN to the Institute Aminuddin Baki (IAB) for his contributions of late Aminuddin Baki (Education Advisor Federation of Malaya) in education in 1960’s. IAB goal is to build and develop professionalism in the leadership and management education that will help develop a national education system as a whole.
