SMK Kuhara Tawau, Sabah

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kuhara (SMK Kuhara) was founded by Sir George Wyatt on the 16 January, 1967. The school started with only 2 teachers and a Bridge Class with a total of 32 students only. The school did not have any physical facilities nor a building of its own, like the one we have now, for 10 years after its conception. However, the school was fortunate because other principals of various schools were willing to let our students use their school on temporary basis. These schools included SM Holy Trinity, SMK Tawau, SRJK Yuk Chin and SR Kem Kabota. Therefore the teachers and students had do their teaching and learning process in floating classes.

In 1977, the school moved into a newly built building which was declared open on 27 September 1977. In 1976, the number of students was less than 600 students but by 1987 it had reached close to 2000 students. 20 years after its conception, SMK Kuhara has emerged as one of the best school not only in Tawau but also in Sabah. This was proven by the performance and achievements of its academic and co-curriculum which keeps on improving year after year. Because of that, the school was chosen to be the Model School to all the schools in Tawau.
