The South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) was first conceptualized about 20 years ago when the Japanese International Cooperation Agency or JICA carried out the Klang Valley traffic study to look at strategically new growth areas and the necessary road linkages to it. The study identified that the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR) of which SKVE is a part of, was necessary to disperse traffic and provide a new development corridor for the Klang Valley.
SKVE Holdings Sdn Bhd, the concessionaire for the SKVE has been granted a 40 year concession right by the government to build, operate and maintain the highway on privatization basis.
Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) and Islamic Development Bank (IDB) have come forward to support SKVE Holdings Sdn Bhd in providing project financing facilities of RM 1.3 billion.
