The Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation was established in 1995. With its establishment, UiTM became the institution of higher learning in Malaysia to offer programmes in the field of sports management, leisure, recreation and sports science. The Faculty initially offers Diploma programmes in Sports and Recreational Management (SR 111), Leisure Management (SR 112), Sports Studies (SR 113) and Health and Fitness (SR 114).
In 1996, the faculty conducted a Master of Sports Science in collaboration with the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. This was the first postgraduate degree in sports science been offered in Malaysia. The 18 month programme successfully produced its first batch of 29 graduates in 1998. These graduates are now holding important position in sports and recreational organisations throughout the country. The Faculty introduced its own postgraduate programme in Master of Sports Science (SR 770) by coursework in May 2002. The faculty subsequently introduced a Master in Sports Science (SR 780) by research and Doctor of Philosophy (SR 990) by research in July 2005.
