In general, the location of Kemaman Municipal Council is adjacent to Dungun District in the north while in the south it is bordering with Pahang State. The implementation of Terengganu State development by the state government\u00a0 through two phases\u00a0since\u00a01980 to\u00a02010, is one of the challenges to Kemaman Municipal Council, especially the second phase (1995 &#8211; 2010) which emphasize on the development of industrial sector throughout Terengganu State.<\/p>\n<p>The rapid development and economic growth in Kemaman since a few years back especially in petroleum and gas based industrial sector which\u00a0are the core to the industrial sector development besides the central government\u2019s encouragement to develop other industrial sectors in the Peninsular East Coast states. The existence of <a href=\"http:\/\/vectorise.net\/vectorworks\/logos\/Jabatan%20Kerajaan\/downloads\/eastcoasteconomicregionmy.htm\" target=\"_blank\">East Coast Economic Region<\/a>\u00a0and the presence of an important port, such as\u00a0Kemaman Port, form the contributing factors towards upgrading the status of Majlis Daerah Kemaman,\u00a0<em>(Kemaman District Council)<\/em> to Majlis Perbandaran Kemaman, <em>(Kemaman Municipal Council)<\/em>.
