Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Berhad or Utusan Melayu was established as Kumpulan Utusan (The Utusan Group) since 1938 in Singapore as Utusan Melayu Press Limited. The first newspaper, Utusan Melayu, was launched on 29th May 1939. Using Jawi, the Arabic script, the newspaper was printed in Singapore and served the Jawi literate in British Malaya. Later the Sunday edition, Utusan Zaman was published. Utusan Melayu and Utusan Zaman were at the forefront of intellectual development of Malay nationalists who later provided enlightened political leadership in preparation for Independence.

To date, Utusan Melayu primarily engages in the publication, printing and distribution of newspapers in Malaysia. The company operates through publishing, distribution, advertisements and others segments. It primarily publishes and distributes the Utusan Malaysia, Mingguan Malaysia, Kosmo & Kosmo Ahad newspapers, and their famous magazines are Wanita, URTV, Harmoni, Al Islam, Mastika, Saji, Infiniti, iSihat and Hijab Fesyen. The company also publishes and distributes educational books of various disciplines and general topics, such as management, business, motivation, and religion. In addition, it provides print, online, and outdoor advetures, etc..
