The 3R’s of reduce, reuse and recycle have been considered to be a base of environmental awareness and a way of promoting ecological balance through conscious behaviour and choices. It is generally accepted that these patterns of behaviour and consumer choices will lead to savings in materials and energy which will benefit the environment.

Malaysia Cergas, is a campaign, activities and programmes usually organised by the government under the Kementerian Belia dan Sukan, (Ministry of Youth and Sports), to develop and encourage active, healthy and happy community lifestyle to the people.

Bermula dengan panggilan Minggu Bahasa Kebangsaan dana Bulan Bahasa Kebangsaan sepanjang dekad 60-an. Kempen ini telah melalui perubahan pelbagai nama seperti Gerakan Cintailah Bahasa Kita (GCBK) (1987-1996), Gerakan Bahasa Kebangsaan Sektor Swasta (GBKSS) (1996-2005) dan Minggu Sastera (1987-1998). Akhirnya pada tahun 1999, gerakan ini dinamakan Bulan Bahasa dan Sastera Negara (BBSN). Program BBSN yang pertama telah dilancarkan pada tahun 1999 oleh YAB Dato’ Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, Timbalan Perdana Menteri Malaysia ketika itu.
